Opt-Out Questions

2 min read

Question 1: When we opt someone out by going to their lead details –> selecting opt out on lead actions does this mean they won’t receive any further emails from us at all? Even if their email is in a distribution list and an email campaign is sent to the distribution list will they receive the email?

Answer: No, the lead will no longer receive any sort of emails from your end whatsoever; even if there is a distribution list( having that lead ) and that list is used in Email campaigns or automation.

Question 2: If a lead is unsubscribed or opted-out in the system and we then import their details into the system again does LeadSquared recognise this is the same email address and opt out / unsubscribe the details that have been newly imported or does it create a new lead which isn’t unsubscribed / opted out?

Answer:

There are 2 scenarios. Let us say there is lead who unsubscribes from your emails and you import his/her details again using lead export/import. Now you should look for a field called Do not Email while you select the columns to export/import.

  • For leads who have unsubscribed/opted-out, the value for Do not Email field in the CSV file will be YES after you export them. If you re-import this CSV as it is, the leads are still going to stay Opted-out.
  • If you edit the value for Do not Email in the CSV file and change it to NO ( ie Do not email= No OR you want the lead to receive emails from you) –> save changes and then Import the lead details, the lead will now receive emails from you. This means you can overwrite the Do not Email field in the CSV file and send emails to leads who have opted out.

So to conclude, the system has no provision of checking the leads who have opted out, based on their email IDs. It all depends on the Do not Email field.
